Welcome to Mercer + Green.
I am a born and bred New Yorker, mom of two little girls who loves
all things New York and is passionate about healthy living.
All in Motherhood
Before we decided to have a second baby and all throughout my pregnancy I was terrified about how a sibling would effect Hermione. She always seemed like such an only child to me.
I used to be a huge statement jewelry person. I had a huge collection of costume pieces that I would wear all the time, not just on special occasions. While I loved these bold pieces at the time over the year's my taste has become a bit simpler
Packing for myself and the girls can be a bit overwhelming. Between clothes for all three of us, baby supplies for Portia, Hermione's favorite snacks etc. it can be a lot to think of and organize.
Last Friday Hermione and Portia hosted some of their friends for a little Galentine's Day party. It was so cute to have my best girlfriends and their little girls (and one little brother) over for an afternoon of snacks, crafts, and of course dress up!
Many of my friends are expecting their second or third babies this winter and there is one question I keep getting asked. Did you discover any new products with Portia that you wish you had when Hermione was a newborn? My answer is an unequivocal yes!
Before Portia was born I tried to find books on siblings and sisters in particular to read to her. As an only child I was worried she would resent and feel jealous of her sister. I wanted to help her understand just how special having a sister would be and what her new role as big sister meant.
Recently I discovered a new brand of diapers that I am beyond obsessed with. Parasol diapers are not only beautiful (check out the designs) but they are so so soft. In fact the company describes them as "underwear for babies!"
Before the holiday break from school Hermione and I hosted a very special playdate for her closest girlfriends and their mommies. I invited Lucie Helene aka the Mischievous Goddess over for some magical dress up, crafting and face painting with the girls.
Before Hermione was born I picked out a lovey for her- a small soft pink blanket with a little elephant head attached. I had read a lot about transitional objects and how they can help babies learn to self soothe from a young age. I slept with Hermione's lovey for several nights to get my scent on it. I handed it to her while she was nursing so it would smell like milk.
